The team of Zaporizhzhia Abrasive Plant took part in the international technical conference on refractories UNITECR 2023, which was held in Frankfurt. The central theme of the event is the challenge of carbon pollution. Decarbonization and the search for alternative energy sources determine the future of many industries, particularly the refractory industry.
Specialists at the conference noted that the refractory industry is one of the most energy-intensive industries, and its functioning largely depends on using natural gas. Recent events in Ukraine have highlighted the importance of finding alternatives to gas dependence. Without it, a refractory industry can cease operations in just a few days. One of the possible options is the use of hydrogen.
Some companies are already planning to completely abandon gas by 2045 and switch to hydrogen, which is considered a more environmentally friendly energy source. The central postulate the participants emphasized at the conference is ecology and the abandonment of gas dependence as an energy source.
One cannot ignore that the refractory industry is one of the most polluting industries. The future of our next generations depends on our actions today. The use of hydrogen in the chemical industry has already become one of the main strategies for countries that care about the environment, in particular Germany.
Of course, the development of new technologies and the introduction of modern equipment are essential components for ensuring more efficient and less energy-intensive production. These are the steps that we try to implement in our production as well.
