1. Zaporizhzhia Abrasive Plant is the only producer of grinding materials in Ukraine and one of the largest producers of abrasives in Eastern Europe. In your opinion, what advantages does the company have to compete in the market, given the increasing influence of Chinese manufacturers?
The Zaporizhia Abrasive Plant has a number of competitive advantages that allow us to successfully resist the influence of Chinese manufacturers. The most important of them is the high quality of our products, which is based on many years of experience and strict control at all stages of production and is confirmed by long-term cooperation with powerful European companies – we have been working with some of them for 20-30 years. An important point is that we offer our customers flexible production solutions that allow us to adapt products to their individual needs.
A key element of our strategy is a clear pricing policy. It is stable and predictable, which allows our partners to plan expenses without risks. It is also important that we provide a high level of service and communication, promptly respond to customer needs and provide quality service, which includes not only timely deliveries, but also support at all stages of cooperation.
We actively follow market trends and requirements, which allows us to stay relevant and offer modern solutions for our customers. Thanks to constant improvement and ensuring compliance of products with European standards, we are able to compete on an equal footing with the leading players in the industry, including Chinese manufacturers.
2. Everyone knows that people are the greatest value of a successful company. Did you manage to save the team and not lose potential during a full-scale war?
As a critical infrastructure enterprise, “Zaporizhabrazyv” faced serious challenges in the personnel sphere, however, we managed to keep the team and ensure the continuity of technological processes. This became possible thanks to a clear strategy of crisis management and priority of physical, financial and legal security of employees, implementation of a number of important social initiatives. We have minimized the risks and preserved the key competencies necessary for smooth operations. Along with this, we continue to invest in the development of personnel and technology to maintain our competitiveness in international markets.
We are actively introducing new modern equipment manufactured by Abrapress and Maternini, new connections from Germany and Slovenia, improving methods of quality control of finished products. Our engineers are constantly working on improving product characteristics to meet the growing needs of the market.
3. Today, in order to attract new partners and expand the presence on international markets, production and products must undergo appropriate certification. What developments in this matter does “Zaporizhabrazyv” already have, and what is planned in the near future?
“Zaporizhabrazyv” has already received MPA Hannover certification for key positions of cutting and ceramic wheels, which confirms the compliance of our products with European quality and safety standards.
The next strategically important step for us is the oSa (Organization for the Safety of Abrasives) certification, which includes an audit of the tool, equipment and production processes. Due to the war, oSa specialists cannot start the audit yet, but as soon as the security situation allows, we will immediately initiate it. The completion of these certification stages will contribute to the expansion of our presence in international markets and will help strengthen the trust of our partners in us as a reliable manufacturer of safe and high-quality tools.
4. You are a fairly progressive and modern company that actively implements various programs and services, such as the SAP system and Private Label. You have also joined the “National Cashback” program. Tell us in more detail about these components of your development strategy. What benefits do your customers get from such implementations?
Frankly speaking, we lag behind the leaders of Ukrainian business in matters of automation and comprehensive implementation of the IRP system for process management. Therefore, we are actively working in this direction, using the SAP software solution – a German company and a leader in the software market. This is an important and lengthy process, but already today we managed to reduce the time of processing orders, speed up the process of product shipment and document flow, which is positively evaluated by our customers. It is important that the implementation of SAP opens opportunities for integration with Internet platforms and the use of the drop shipping system, which contributes to the expansion of sales channels for modern tools.
The Private Label program allows customers to obtain abrasive tools (cut-off and ceramic wheels) under their own brand, making their offer more competitive. We offer conditions that compete with Chinese manufacturers. Additionally, we are ready to provide support in registering your own trademark and developing a unique label design.
First of all, we see the potential for Private Label products in the domestic market of Ukraine. However, we are currently working on a test order of bakelite wheels for one of the major instrument manufacturers in the EU under Private Label.
We also joined the “National Cashback” program, which stimulates demand for Ukrainian products. Although it is too early to judge the results, we expect a significant increase in sales in the near future.
5. In conclusion, I would like to hear your assessment of the impact of the war on the abrasive tool market, the prospects for post-war reconstruction and the company’s plans for the near future.
The war significantly changed the abrasive tool market. The increase in the cost of production, problems with logistics and the instability of the national currency affected supply and demand. However, we see significant prospects for growth during the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. There will be a huge demand for construction materials, tools and restoration projects where abrasives will play an important role. Our plans are to actively participate in this process, expanding production capacity and strengthening international partnerships.
